Standards in Trade Workshop/ U. S. Technology and principles in metrology, standards-setting, and conformity assessment. The two- week course provides a comprehensive overview of the roles of the U. S. Government, private sector, and international and regional organizations in the development of standards and the conduct of conformity assessment activities.

The workshop focuses on the U. S. process of standards development, how standards and related practices are applied, and their impact on international trade.

Basic Mass, Length, Volume  for State legal metrologists

A two-week, “hands-on” seminar with 50 percent spent in the classroom and 50 percent spent doing laboratory work. The emphasis of the seminar focuses on the understanding and application of the procedures, the equations, and calculations involved, including calculation of standard deviations, and uncertainties, error analysis, the operation of the laboratory equipment, and review of publications, standards, specifications, and tolerances relevant to the measurements likely to be performed by the metrologist. Basic Mass-Seminar for Industry The Basic Mass Seminar for Industry is similar to the course described above and is limited to mass calibration procedures.

Additions to the seminar are topics related to verification of weighting equipment. A significant portion of the class and laboratory time is spent making measurements and performing calculations.

English Proficiency

Limited to ten participants who have familiarity with the operation of both mechanical and electronic laboratory balances and mass comparators, calibration laboratory experience or experience calibrating laboratory balances.

Advanced Hands-On Mass Seminar This is a follow-up seminar to the Advanced Mass seminar and is somewhat unstructured based on the specific needs of the participants, previous training and current requirements. Topics that will be covered are creating data files for weighting designs, overview and hands-on of Lab Wizard data entry, creation of template files and the use of template files using Lab Wizard, hands-on calibration in the laboratory, etc. English Proficiency

Advanced theory and concepts of weighing designs, design statistics, uncertainties, and measurement control are presented. Lab Wizard software is distributed and introduction to data files and software operation are covered.
