Consensus Recommendations for the FTAA

The Brazil-U.S. Business Council welcomes the opportunity to provide formal written comments in response to the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) Open Invitation for Written Submissions from Civil Society published on the FTAA website on March 28, 2003.

Over the course of the last several years the Brazil-U.S. Business Council have worked to develop consensus positions on the FTAA. The document below resulted from the Brazil-U.S. private sector dialogue held at the VII Americas Business Forum in Quito, Ecuador, and represents an important foundation of agreement between the private sectors of both countries on the FTAA. We trust that this consensus document will assist FTAA governments in their efforts to move these important issues forward.

The Brazil-U.S. Business Council is committed to providing a means of forging consensus on key FTAA issues and views this document as a starting point for achieving an FTAA.
