 FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON 
DISPUTE SETTLEMENT Twelfth Meeting Panama, July 30 – August 1, 2001 PRESS COMMUNIQUE 
The Twelfth Meeting of the Negotiating Group on Dispute Settlement was held in Panama on July 30 – August 1, 2001. 
Representatives of 20 countries of the Hemisphere were in attendance: Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, 
Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, 
United States, Uruguay and Venezuela. 
The agenda for the meeting that was adopted is attached as 
annex.
All the items on the agenda were considered during the meeting.  The NGDS advanced in its work of eliminating brackets 
and consolidating text in the draft chapter on dispute settlement to the maximum extent possible.  The Group agreed to post 
on the FTAA website additional information about international commercial arbitration regimes in the FTAA countries.
The date of the next meeting of the NGDS will be decided by the Trade Negotiations Committee at its September meeting 
in Managua.
