Eighteenth Meeting
Panama, December 5-6, 2002
PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ

The Eighteenth Meeting of the Consultative Group on Smaller Economies (CGSE) was
held in Panama City, Panama from December 5-6, 2002. In attendance were
delegates of the following countries: Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil,
Canada, Colombia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico,
Nicaragua, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and United States.

The CGSE agreed on an agenda, which is attached to this
press communiqué. All the items on the agenda were covered.

The CGSE undertook a thorough review of the mandates given to it by the
Ministers Responsible for Trade at their November meeting in Quito, Ecuador.

The CGSE agreed on a Work Plan for the new negotiating period.

The Tripartite Committee presented a draft framework for the development of the
national and/or sub-regional trade capacity building strategies.

The next meeting of the CGSE will take place in Panama City, Panama from January
29-31, 2002.
