The eighth meeting of the Negotiating Group on Market Access was held in Miami, Florida, from May 9-12, 2000. Delegates from the following countries participated therein: Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The Negotiating Group on Market Access tackled the topics on the agenda, including a very detailed exchange of points of view on Tariffs and Non-Tariff Measures, Rules of Origin, Customs Procedures, Safeguards, Technical Barriers to Trade, as well as the modalities of negotiation concerning the reduction of tariffs. On each one of these topics, significant advances were achieved and solid bases for the subsequent development of the work were established.

The next meeting of the Group will take place in Miami, Florida, from 4-7 July 2000.
