The sixth meeting of the Negotiating Group on Market Access took place in Miami from September 22 through 24, 1999. Delegates from the following countries participated therein: Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, and Uruguay .

As part of the Agenda for the Meeting, the Group approved its Report to the Trade Negotiations Committee (TNC), for the purpose of providing inputs to this Committee for its report to Ministers for the next Ministerial Meeting, to be held in Toronto, Canada this November.

In addition, during the meeting, the Group considered the issues related to the proposed structures and elements for the FTAA chapters on rules of origin, customs procedures, and standards and technical barriers to trade.

It was agreed that the next meeting of the Group will take place in Miami, Florida, at the beginning of the month of February 2000.

FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON MARKET ACCESS

1. Based on comments and observations presented by delegations, discussion and adoption of the NGMA Report to the TNC.

2. Based on new proposals submitted by delegations, discussion of documents related to proposed structures for the FTAA Chapters on Rules of Origin, Standards and Technical Barriers to Trade, and Customs Procedures.
