FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS Panama, May 28 - 29, 2001 PRESS COMMUNIQUE
The ninth meeting of the FTAA Negotiating Group on Intellectual Property Rights (NGIP) took place in Panama from 28 to 29 May, 2001. Delegates from the following 21 countries were present: Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and the United States. The agenda of the meeting is attached to this Communiqué. The NGIP discussed all items on its agenda. The NGIP agreed on a Work Plan for the 2001-2002 phase of the negotiations that will enable the development of a second version of the draft text of the chapter on intellectual property rights. The NGIP consolidated sections two 5 and 6 of the NGIP draft preliminary text. The NGIP agreed to hold its next meeting on June 28-29.
