FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT (NGGP)

Fourth Meeting

Miami, June 8-11, 1999

PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ

The fourth meeting of the Negotiating Group on Government Procurement (NGGP) took place in Miami, Florida on June 8-11, 1999. Delegates from the following twenty-one countries were present: Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The NGGP covered all issues listed on the agenda, which is attached to this communique. The NGGP held an in-depth discussion of the elements that might be included in the FTAA Chapter on Government Procurement and progressed in its consideration of the Normative Framework it has been mandated to develop. In addition, the NGGP considered further the issue of statistical information needs at various stages in the negotiations and the capacities of the national statistical information systems in the hemisphere. The NGGP agreed to hold its next meeting on August 23-25, 1999.
